Upcoming Transformers One animated movie at SDCC

 

There's always so much going on at Comic-Con International. It's impossible to see everything. Still, as a Transformers fan, I'm sorry I missed the panel for the upcoming TRANSFORMERS ONE animated film featuring Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry and Michael Key. 

 

 

 

 

Apparently, Paramount gave attendees an exclusive preview of the movie. 

How did I miss this panel?

 

 

 

TRANSFORMERS ONE is the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, better known as sworn enemies, but once were friends bonded like brothers who changed the fate of Cybertron forever. In the first-ever fully CG-animated Transformers movie, TRANSFORMERS ONE features a star-studded voice cast, including Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, with Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm. I can't wait to see it!

Again, how did I miss this? 

 

I guess I'll have to wait to see it in theaters on September 20th, 2024.

The Walking Dead: Dead City at SDCC

 

So much happens at Comic-Con International. No one can hope to see it all. I didn't attend this panel, but I'm sorry I missed it!

 

 

AMC Networks’ The Walking Dead Universe returned to Comic-Con International’s Hall H with a star-studded panel for The Walking Dead: Dead City, moderated by Chris Hardwick. Executive Producer Eli Jorné, Executive Producers and Stars Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Cast Members Gaius Charles and Željko Ivanek surprised fans with an exclusive new teaser and casting announcements for season two, which returns to AMC and AMC+ next year. New images from the series were also released.

 

 

Season Two casting announcements include:  

Keir Gilchrist (Atypical, It Follows), in the role of “Benjamin Pierce” 

Dascha Polanco (Orange Is the New Black, Poker Face), in the role of “Major Lucia Narvaez”

The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror. In season two, in the growing war for control of Manhattan, Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped on opposite sides. Story

Rudy isn’t wild about seeing her old boss at Auntie Inga’s Bakery again. Inga Johanning-Bucholz gave Rudy the ability to generate industrial-grade bio-lubricant. Then Inga set Rudy on fire. Rudy knows Inga also bears responsibility for Seascape flooding Farmington. She grows increasingly angry as Jack confers with his former girlfriend. Jack is a superhero. He shouldn’t team up with a supervillain!

 

Are villains born or made? In Tony Fleecs & Tim Seeley's series, Inga was a good person. But after Jack abandoned her for a glamorous life with Third Gen, Inga vowed to stay in her small town and be successful no matter what. She may not have become a millionaire, but her dirty deeds didn’t come dirt cheap. She conspired with Jack’s team leader, Camo Crusader, to rob the teen heroes in Fourth Gen of their powers and sell them to the highest bidder. After her former friends and neighbors shunned her, Inga welcomes Jack's reliance on her. Her answers highlight how much all the members of Third Gen, even Neon, used Jack. However, Inga's comments and actions in Local Man #12 suggest she has not shed her manipulative ways.

 

After seeing a flood destroy his adoptive hometown and learning of Inga's affair with Jack, Brian Bucholz broke. The police chief gave up on his job, sent his children to live with his brother, and sought solace in religion. When Father Leo's church failed to fill the aching void, Brian joined the new cult that took up residence in the community center. The Faceless Horde fills Brian with contentment, and he spends his days in the former Fourth Gen training facility. The Price helps Brian and her followers glimpse alternative versions of themselves. She promises that they can visit these parallel worlds. But Jack knows from his time in Third Gen that her promises are lies, and her followers invariably die.

 

Jack experienced much that this world and others had to offer. Yet he’s matured since he returned to Farmington in disgrace. Now, he fights for the town he couldn't wait to leave without desiring to profit from his exploits in any way. But Jack will need more allies than Inga, Rudy, and his dog Pepper to battle The Faceless Horde. Freeing people from The Price's influence will likely reawaken their anger at him. He may no longer be Crossjack. But even if he killed Camo Crusader, Jack is a superhero because he fights to save others from danger and death in Local Man #12.

 

Art

Jack and Inga ignore Rudy's frantic gestures as they confer like confidants. Inga kneels beside a body in a pool of slime, then rises clutching a pointy stick. A cloaked leader preaches to her armored followers. They incinerate the clothes they shed and the photographs they clung to with laser rifles. Tony Fleecs & Tim Seeley's art preserves the homespun quality of their small-town tale. Their backup story portrays a Catholic priest who evokes Reverend Henry Kane more than Father Leo. The priest takes a page out of King Julien's book when he grabs a young boy and drags him up to the mouth of a volcano. But the boy’s fate will differ from Melman’s in Local Man #12.

 

Brad Simpson and Allen Passalaqua color Inga's storage shed in red, pink, purple, and green. As Jack bends to clasp Brian's hand, blue smoke rises amid the darkness surrounding the mesmerized police chief. Does Brian kneel to pick up Jack's gray dog because he shares the otherworldly anger that Pepper swallowed? Blue shards radiate from Brian’s face, portraying alternate worlds against a green background. Felipe Sobreiro colors the smoky air surrounding silhouettes orange and gray. A boy in a green T-shirt with a red, white, and green face tumbles into a smoky yellow pool. He emerges adorned with all those colors and more.

 

Uppercase black letters fill dialogue balloons. Dialogue emboldens for inflection, swells for raised voices, and rarely shrinks. Sound effects help us hear Pepper craving attention, a visor sliding over a familiar face, Jack spitting blood, Rudy slime-skiing, and a volcano erupting in Local Man #12. Final Thoughts

When pain and loss engulf Farmington, a cult empowers the locals to refuse the hand fate dealt them and reach for a better one. Local Man #12 takes on the plight of small-town America and questions our belief in our unalienable rights.

Story

Queen Mob built Earth’s largest stadium. She transported it to Crater Town via airship. Then she poisoned a lake that survived the Bad Week and the Murder Winds. The final game in I Heart Skull-Crusher #5 shows Queen Mob’s disdain for all others and the rules. People live and die to please her whims. Tyrants—the leaders of bubble cities--are disposable. Skull-Crusher has been her favorite champion. But the times, they are A-Changin’.

 

Skull-Crusher lit up Trini’s world. Growing up with little to call her own, Skull-Crusher became her idol and Screaming Pain Ball her obsession. Skull-Crusher also came from the American Wastes. Coach Blood-Bone trained Skull-Crusher. He saw her rise through the competition to become Queen Mob's favorite. Then, the coach abandoned the sport that defined him and drowned himself in alcohol while Skull-Crusher grew disillusioned and cynical.

 

Trini gave the twins a new purpose in life. She gave Coach Blood-Bone a reason to hope. She gave Cutter Dan a new family after his older brother’s death. In I Heart Skull-Crusher #5, Josie Campbell strips away Skull-Crusher’s veneer of heroism, and Trini sees her idol as she is. Lights illuminate packed grandstands and an obstacle course that dwarfs the competitors. Panels radiate like banners as silhouettes cheer before a big-screen closeup of Trini and Alessio Zonno compares the spectators to a young girl worshipping her idol. As Skull-Crusher breaks down barriers with a Sakaaran hammer, the dripping love skulls vanish from Trini's eyes. The girl picks up a twin and becomes The Running Woman amid her idol’s warpath.

 

A white blade slices into a twin's green-and-pink arm, and yellow energy crackles like lightning. Spectrums of green, pink, and yellow light radiate from Queen Mob's court, evoking the cover of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon. A green flashback reveals the decision that changed Skull-Crusher forever. Trini’s hero yanks a chain that scatters silhouettes at the heart of a yellow-and-orange explosion.

 

Amid Angel De Santiago’s vibrant colors in this action-packed finale, Jim Campbell fills white dialogue balloons and colored narrative boxes with small uppercase lettering that emboldens for inflection, shrinks for lowered voices, and enlarges for shouts. Final Thoughts

Screaming Pain Ball was Trini's ticket out of the American Wastes. Queen Mob promised the winner a career alongside her champion. But Queen Mob changes the rules and redefines the reward in I Heart Skull-Crusher #5, while Trini discovers an essential truth about herself. On the brink of achieving her life dream, Trini discovers that winning won't bring the success she envisioned.

Main Story

Maxine’s former underling used Dr Morbius’ blood to develop three new products. TJ used Lure to summon vampires to work for him. TJ changed his name to Theocritis and used Change to voluntarily and involuntarily convert Humans into vampires. But his third product, Cure, only provides temporary relief from vampirism. In Justina Ireland’s story, TJ needs Dr Mike to turn his treatment into a serum that will defang vampires permanently.

 

In Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #3, Team Blood Spidey steals a van and rams through the garage doors of TJ’s headquarters. Misty takes Maxine’s flash drive in search of a USB port. Spidey thwips up the stairs after Lizard to ask for directions to Dr. Mike's swank lab. He finds one employee extraordinarily helpful. Like Dr Morbius’ new assistant Whitney, who TJ lured into vampirism through a dating app, the vampire worker didn’t choose to become a True Blood.

 

Despite her kicking and quipping in the Hemoglobin Inc. garage, Colleen felt a little down after her first blood donation. Yet, like Buddy Ryan in Night Court, she's feeling much better now. TJ's forced conversion brings Colleen surprising joy. She's so enthralled with her afterlife that she argues its merits with Misty. If Colleen can't convince her fellow Daughter Of The Dragon, she’s got another role in mind for Misty.

 

Dr Morbius struggled for years to find a cure for vampirism. Like the recipients of TJ’s Cure, he cannot exorcise the blood hunger from his body. In Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #3, Dr Morbius utilizes TJ’s First-Class laboratory with all the latest scientific equipment to find the solution that has eluded him. So what if TJ forcibly converts Humans into vampires? With Hemoglobin Inc.'s impressive resources, it’s only a matter of time until Dr Mike discovers a permanent Cure for everyone.

 

 

 

Art

Spidey crashes onto a delivery van, thwips away vamps as Misty revs the engine, and goes Teen Wolf Surfing into Hemoglobin Inc. As Misty slips her flash drive into a computer, a silhouette with golden hair spies Misty’s golden arm. But when the lights come on, Colleen’s hair emulates her Bronze Age origins, and her skin is washed white as snow in Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #3.

 

Rachelle Rosenberg brings vibrant colors to Marcelo Ferreira, Chris Campana, Roberto Poggi & Craig Yeung's art. Spider-Man's blue and red stand out against the turquoise walls as gray-skinned vampires greet a green Lizard clad in purple Hulk slacks and a white lab coat. Lizard's green skin contrasts with a pistachio combatant who emulates the Nazi guarding The Flying Wing in Raiders Of The Lost Ark. The yellow flames leaping from Spider-Man’s purple head dance in the tomato sky as Peter Parker confronts the vampire he believes created this Fright Night in Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #3.

 

Cory Petit thwips large black uppercase lettering into white dialogue balloons and white narrative boxes with red borders. The Lizard’s giant roars threaten to pierce dialogue balloons. While Lizard’s hisses swarm this twilight battle, Petit’s vibrant and transparent sound effects reveal Lizzie’s brawlin’ muscles’ concussive power during this forever night. Final Thoughts

Hemoglobin Inc. offers employees rapid career advancement, transformative economic benefits, and a zest for life. Yet Peter Parker won't stand by and watch others endure transformation without representation or leave them to face the moral quandaries he battled when a spider bite changed him forever in Amazing Spider-Man: Blood Hunt #3.

Story

The attack in Darklonia occurs at a crucial time for MARS. Destro has secured an exclusive supply of Energon from Cobra Commander. Destro tantalized buyers at the arms fair that officially wasn't happening with military inventions that technically didn't exist. But Extensive Enterprises dispelled Destro’s aura of invincibility by deploying drones using cloaking technology that shielded them from MARS satellites.

 

Xamot and Tomax value people over technology. They focus on training their Crimson Guard and hire engineers to steal and recreate others' inventions. They wield an army of ruthless soldiers who prize reliable people as assets and liquidate liabilities. In attacking the Darklonian arms fair, they reduce demand for MARS weaponry and stand ready to deploy their Crimson Guard mercenaries in any conflict.

 

Dan Watters illustrates the similarities and differences between Destro and his adversaries in Destro #2. Destro may have smiled when he realized he was at war, but he’s angry now. Xamot and Tomax surprised and shamed him. The surviving buyers will return home with reports of deaths and a billion dollars worth of destroyed MARS weaponry. Xamot and Tomax claim Destro made a false flag attack on the Darklonian arms fair. Why shouldn't buyers believe Destro attacked the event with combat drones? Extensive Enterprises deploys Human power, while MARS sells the machinery of war.

 

Worse, Destro deployed his experimental Battle Android Troopers in the Darklonian attack using Cobra Commander’s Energon. Destro added insult to injury by insisting that he determines what he does with this limited resource. This unprovoked war risks exposing his secret "game-changing" power source to his competitors and losing his privileged relationship with Cobra Commander.

 

Art

Fires burn outside the crenelated stone walls of the former prime minister’s castle as Destro addresses his troops. Andrei Bressan shows Xamot and Tomax brief their legions inside their sleek modern building. While hundreds gather between fencing and tanks in Darklonia, thousands fill the vast interior of the Extensive Enterprises New York City headquarters. From a rubble-strewn cliff overlooking the ocean to harsh, snowy Scotland, Destro argues, attacks and communes. Yet Xamot and Tomax's expressions reveal a determination to win that rivals the man in the iron mask in Destro #2.

 

Yellow and orange flames choke the Darklonian air with gray smoke while Extensive Enterprises stands undamaged beneath bright blue skies. Adriano Lucas reminds us of the stark differences that divide the US political battleground as the rival leaders address their seas of green or red followers. Yet Lucas hints the two sides are not as different as they seem, as Crimson Guard fight amid the greenery of a training ground, and Destro’s wide red collar surrounds a silver face that reflects his soldiers' green uniforms.

 

Rus Wooton orders readers into Destro #2 with large uppercase black lettering in white dialogue balloons and narrative boxes. Wooton shows how business leaders conduct war, or warriors conduct business, as words embolden for emphasis but never swell or shrink. Sound effects help readers hear explosions knock Crimson Guard off their feet as Assault System Pods send MARS aircraft crashing. Final Thoughts

Destro and his rivals Xamot and Tomax believe war refines the Human species and the most adaptable players survive. But Xamot and Tomax inspire others, while Destro values property over people and communion with the dead over the camaraderie of the living in Destro #2.

Epic New Trailer for the Upcoming Second Season

 

San Diego was transformed into Middle-earth on Friday, as Prime Video showcased the highly anticipated second season of the epic series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay were joined on the iconic Hall H stage by over a dozen cast members for a lively and insightful conversation moderated by Emmy-nominated actress and renowned genre fan Yvette Nicole Brown (Avengers: Endgame, Community). 

 

The ensemble cast thrilled the 6,500 fans who packed the massive convention center hall by unveiling a brand-new exclusive trailer for the upcoming season. The action-packed trailer focuses on the long-feared reemergence of the legendary villain Sauron, heralding the return of darkness and evil to Middle-earth after many years of hard-fought peace among all of its realms. The trailer also highlighted the creation of more of the titular Rings of Power, forged with the aid of Sauron’s powers of deception and manipulation.

 

 

Fans were also excited to see a glimpse of many of the fantastical, and sometimes frightening, creatures that will appear this season, including a young Shelob, an army of Barrow-wights, Hill-troll Damrod, a Sea Worm, and even Ents!  The riveted crowd also enjoyed teases of several major battle scenes that will be pivotal to Season Two’s storylines.

The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is produced by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. They are joined by executive producers Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, and Gennifer Hutchison, along with co-executive producer and director Charlotte Brändström, producers Kate Hazell and Helen Shang, and co-producers Clare Buxton, Andrew Lee, Glenise Mullins, and Matthew Penry-Davey.
