NO ONE ESCAPES THE SKIN POLICE! Oni Press, the multiple Eisner and Harvey Award-winning publisher of groundbreaking comics and graphic novels since 1997, is proud to present a first look inside SKIN POLICE 2 #1 (of 4) – an ALL-NEW JUMPING-ON POINT into the violent and visceral world of a future dystopia pushed to its breaking point by mistrust, misinformation, and an epidemic of murderous clones run rampant!  Rising star Jordan Thomas (Mugshots) and powerhouse artist Daniel Gete (Biker Mice from Mars), usher in an explosive new chapter for the high-octane saga that IGN calls “science fiction mixed with a healthy dose of over-the-top violence” with a brand-new first issue entry-point coming to comic shops everywhere September 3rd

Agents Eckis and Sheen swore an oath to protect the civilian population from the imminent danger of the rogue black market clones known as “Dupes” that can suddenly “pop” without any advance warning—which means any passerby on the street or subway could possibly become an unhinged spree killer in a moment’s notice. In return for their service, however, the public has dubbed Eckis, Sheen, and their fellow agents the “Skin Police”—an insult handed back by a populace unwilling to sacrifice their own civil rights for the agents’ unprecedented duties in light of the Dupe threat. But what if these illegally manufactured clone doppelgängers weren’t as deadly as initially believed? What if they could be saved? And, as the underground resistance movement supporting them grows, what if their leader proved to be someone uncomfortably familiar to the Skin Police?

Now is the time to find out why the high-powered, adrenaline-addled sci-fi/action hybrid that began with SKIN POLICE VOL. 1: CRIMES AGAINST NATURE – on sale now in trade paperback – has racked up praise and accolades from readers, fans, and creators around the world:

Wild [and] gorgeous… Equal parts gripping and unnerving, making me put my hand slightly over my eyes while reading, but never looking away… Engrossing, timely, and wildly entertaining.”—FREAK SUGAR

If you like your science fiction mixed with a healthy dose of over-the-top violence, then you'll want to keep an eye out for Skin Police. This upcoming four-issue miniseries from Oni Press combines a Blade Runner-like premise with copious amounts of blood and gore.”—IGN

Lots of fun… Artistically it’s really inventive… An incredible start to what looks to be a bold, brand-new sci fi tale adventure.”—MY KIND OF WEIRD

Skin Police is Thomas and Gete firing on all glorious, post apocalyptic cylinders. Forget World Building, this is all out World Destroying, and every page is a molotov hurled at the reader.” –CIAN TORMEY (Alan Scott: The Green Lantern, Son of Superman, The Question)

"Full of good art and good ideas, it's faint praise to say this is the best book I've ever read about psychotic clones, but I defy anyone to make a better one." –JOHN ALLISON (Giant Days, Great British Bump-Off)

Jordan and Daniel have created one of the best sci-fi comics in recent years, it's like Morrison, Cronenberg and Moebius have come together in an entity with its own personality. I hope to continue enjoying this series for a long time!” –JORGE FORNES (Batman, Rorschach, Danger Street)

"I can't think of a better example of Tech Noir available in comic book form than SKIN POLICE. Even then, I don't think that genre label fully describes the thrills to be found within its pages. Writer Jordan Thomas has cooked up a feverish brew of Dystopian Detective Fiction and gleefully laced it with a generous dose of Body Horror. The artistic team of Daniel Gete and Jason Wordie present this sci-fi concoction as a quasi-psychedelic visual feast. Like the best comic books, there's a lot here for the reader to devour. SKIN POLICE is an absolute banquet of detailed world-building, brimming with twisty plot revelations that utterly demand multiple sittings." –CHRIS WESTON (Paranoid Gardens, The Invisibles, Lucifer)

Featuring covers by Daniel Gete, Jorge Fornés (Batman, Rorschach), Alison Sampson (Department of Truth), and Clara Meath (Midnight Vista)! – the hyper-kinetic, near-future action epic SKIN POLICE returns with a no-holds-barred turning point for a world where morally gray law enforcement, black market illegal cloning, and political strife are about to boil over in a hail of gunfire when Jordan Thomas and Daniel Gete unleash SKIN POLICE 2 #1 (of 4) on September 3rd!

Zootopia #5 Review

Writer: Jeff Parker

Artist: Alessandro Ranaldi

Colorist: Dearbhla Kelly

Letterer: Jeff Eckleberry

Cover Artists: Trish Forstner, Craig Rousseau & Alessandro Ranaldi

Packager & Editor: Nate Cosby

Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment

Price: $4.99

Release Date: August 13, 2025

Someone in Zootopia is orchestrating a daring series of crimes. What started with a blown-up blimp has escalated to jewelry and art thefts. None of the thieves know who they are working for. They drop off the goods and receive a big box of money. ZPD Officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde have risked their lives, and their nostrils, to catch the anonymous, untraceable caller organizing these thefts. Can they find the master villain? Or will Chief Bogo give them another assignment? Let’s pop in our earbuds, crank up Gazelle’s latest single, leap into Zootopia #5, and see!

Story

When Nick gives Judy a six o’clock wakeup call, the rabbit figures it must be serious. It’s Saturday, and they’re supposed to be off duty. Instead, Judy learns that Nick has volunteered them for community outreach. Stunned, Judy happily accompanies him. Then she realizes that Nick has signed up to chaperone his former Junior Ranger troop. While the kids who terrorized him and drove him away have grown up, Nick has given up his cons and sworn to uphold law and order. In Jeff Parker’s story, Nick wants to see if the environment within the scouts has changed. Is this generation of children more accepting of predators?

In Zootopia #5, the young troop expresses no fear of Officer Nick Wilde. Miss Bev urges her junior rangers to welcome the rabbit and the fox. But Nick has made a crucial error. While the children are kind to him, he fails to gain their respect. Nick is crestfallen when Miss Bev announces that her plans differ from Nick's expectations. Still, Nick accompanies the troop. Judy encourages her partner to enjoy the day, whatever it brings.

Nick may not have found acceptance as a child. The fox may have missed out on a childhood filled with camping, fishing, and exploring the wonders of nature thanks to the rejection and trauma he suffered. Still, Nick’s concern for others pays off. He also demonstrates his ability to navigate tricky situations. In Zootopia #5, Judy is a competent officer who retains command even if she isn't in her element. Nick demonstrates the resilience that helped him succeed on the streets and now helps him serve the public as a member of the Zootopia Police Department.

Art

Judy’s eyes bulge and her ears rise as stuffed bunnies tumble off her bed. Nick looks confident as he gazes up through the windscreen at his partner leaning out the window of her small, upper-story apartment. He grits his teeth, and his eyes express fear, as he steers the bulky cruiser beneath the arbor built from logs. Like their car, Nick and Judy form silhouettes as the beaver addresses the attentive cat, hippo, bear, mouse, and kangaroo. Clad in fishing attire, Nick rests his pole on his shoulder. Judy looks ready for anything in her uniform. But as they prepare to meet the troops, Nick smiles confidently, while Judy grimaces.

Despite flashing his best smile, Nick must leap out of the way when the troop rushes past him. Dots occasionally swarm like bees around foreground figures as Alessandro Ranaldi focuses on characters further away. Characters also appear before banners punctuated with dots, like targets at a ZPD shooting range. Dearbhla Kelly lavishes a palette of bright, cheery colors on the vibrant plants and trees surrounding the nearby city. Light blue bubbles and currents flow along a strikingly blue river that glows with the sun's radiance in Zootopia #5.

Jeff Eckleberry fills white dialogue balloons with black uppercase letters that grow bold for intonation. The letters swell amid high-flying outrage, Nick awakening his partner, and the children's rejoicing. Balloons accompany faces in inset panels amid panoramic shots. Laughter rises when a character doesn’t watch his step, and sharp sounds fill the air when hunters achieve their objective. Thanks to Dynamite Entertainment for providing a review copy.

Final Thoughts

Nick Wilde suffers disappointments when his plan to gain recognition backfires. The Pawpsicle-loving fox may not don a wingsuit and leap off a skyscraper in Zootopia #5. Still, he navigates a fast and furious pursuit with style and validates Judy Hopps’ faith in him.

Rating: 9.4/10

To copilot this doomed survey of the stars, join writers Chris Condon (Ultimate Wolverine), Melissa Flores (Power Rangers Prime), and Dave Wielgosz (Batman: The Brave and the Bold) as they execute the logarithmic calculations that could save our explorers . . . only for the danger-defying artists Sami Kivelä (Abbott), Claire Roe (Dark Spaces: The Hollywood Special), and Riley Rossmo (Harley Quinn) to bear witness to inescapable galactic calamity of their all-too-human hubris. Whoops!

Yes, human, it has been foretold in our data tablets: You will gaze in slackjawed wonder as CRUEL UNIVERSE 2 #2 (of 12) crosses the vacuum of space to deliver new allotments of optical ingenuity in the form of comic book covers by Lee Bermejo (Joker), Tom Fowler (Epitaphs from the Abyss), Albert Monteys (Slaughterhouse-Five), and Malachi Ward (Black Hammer: The End) to begin a eons-long rein of EC Comics-inspired cosmic terror! Plus: Also on sale in September from Oni Press and EC Comics – There’s no rest for the wicked as CATACOMB OF TORMENT #3 presents three tales of fear and frightful persecution fresher than the bludgeoned corpses in your quiet neighbor’s basement! Join our brutally beloved host, the Tormentor, to visit violently vivid vivisections upon our artfully agonizing creators Valeria Burzo (EC’s Epitaphs from the Abyss), Ryan Haddock (The Brothers Flick), J. Holtham (Hulu’s A Handmaid’s Tale), Sami Kivelä (Abbott), Christopher Mitten (Hellboy & The B.P.R.D.) and Joanne Starer (Fire & Ice) as EC’s brand-new and all-out brutal horror anthology continues its experiments in human anatomy!
