This series was a welcome return to the Blade Runner universe. Yet its debut was tinged with sadness. Actor Rutger Hauer, who starred as the replicant Roy Batty in Ridley Scott's immortal film, died two days after the release of Blade Runner 2019 #1. Still, the series proved far more than a sequel, as it opened the door for more stories to be told in a future first glimpsed by Philip K Dick.
