Stephanie Phillips may be an acclaimed comics writer, but once she was a child. At San Diego Comic-Con, she talked about her youth, and how she became the person she is today.
She described her new series for Dstlry as kids trapped on a recreation of the HMS Endeavour, Captain Cook's famous ship that was eventually scuttled in Rhode Island during the Revolutionary War. She compared it to William Golding's horrific novel Lord Of The Flies. Here's how the folks at Dstlry describe it:
Endeavour #1 by Stephanie Phillips and Marc Laming is almost here — and it’s a huge deal for us at DSTLRY. This is Stephanie and Marc at the height of their creative powers: 48 pages of survivalist sea-bound adrenaline.

Here's what other people have to say about Endeavour:
“5 out of 5… Phillips has crafted something that not only feels like a fresh take on the themes best known from a literary classic, but a damn good story. Laming’s art does a fantastic job of marrying both the 18th century Endeavour ship with the more contemporary characters dealing with this current hell without ever losing the integrity of either era ... an incredible start" - Comicbook.com
"ENDEAVOUR is a gripping exploration of what it means to survive and what it may cost, with every grimace and line of rigging carefully brought to life. A wild and unpredictable ride, like the sea itself."
Cliff Chiang (Paper Girls, Catwoman: Lonely City)
“Merging the survival thriller with historical fiction’s soul, writer Stephanie Phillips is at her considerable best here. Artist Marc Laming ably visualizes these characters, turning you right into the dangerous winds they face. Board ENDEAVOUR at your earliestopportunity…”
Cully Hamner (Blue Beetle, Red)
"With a fantastic concept, lovely nuanced characters and drop-dead gorgeous art, ENDEAVOR is too captivating to miss!”
Pornsak Pichetshote (The Good Asian, Infidel)
“Building portentously yet inevitably like a storm on the horizon, Endeavor promises doom and delivers in spades.”
Dan Watters (The One Hand and The Six Fingers, GI Joe)
