The Mouse Man wanted people in the United States to live in equality. When Diana halted his insurrection, he brought his pets to Moray Island and protected its citizens from the lawlessness that developed. But his means of protection stripped his fellow citizens of their freedom. And as the Mouse Man reduced them to slavery, absolute power corrupted him absolutely.

When Diana defeated the Mouse Man, she freed all the inhabitants of Moray Island. Humans get a chance to rule themselves again. And mice can choose to live in peace, not force-grown into giants, trained to attack people, or be beasts of burden. Like the mice and people of Moray Island, Diana also wants to give her daughter the freedom to choose her future. As she returns to the island of her birth, what will she find? And how will her fellow Amazons greet Elizabeth Marston Prince? Let’s grab our lassos, leap into Wonder Woman #29, and see!

Story

Sometimes, we all need to revisit our roots. Diana may be older than Nubia. Still, when she returns home, the queen understands why Diana returned. Philippus also counsels Diana that her time away from Themyscira has drained her. Her Amazon sisters believe that a rest will help Diana see things in their proper perspective.

In The Village: Part One, Diana's battles and the emotional burden she carries have left her daughter unsettled. And, as often happens when a mother consigns her child to another’s care, Elizabeth refuses comfort and aid. But Elizabeth isn't just a young Amazon. A great destiny awaits her. Knowing that one day she will take up the mantle of Wonder Girl, three Amazons who have held that title take a personal interest in helping Diana's daughter. But calming Elizabeth proves a tall order in Wonder Woman #29.

Stephanie Williams’ story reminds us how overwork and obsession can create havoc in families and workplaces. In trying to build a perfect order, we instead invite chaos into our lives. But then, as Diana told the pink-haired mouse girl on Moray Island, being Human means making mistakes. And there's a difference between appreciating a poet's aspirations and living them.

Art

As Diana walks along the beach, she leaves a trail behind her in the sand. While she stands by broken columns, a decaying temple perches on a lonely cliff. Diana may have returned home. Yet she stares out to sea, and the world she left behind, while Elizabeth looks toward Themyscira. Nubia’s robes flutter, and she looks refreshed as she greets Diana. But the returning warrior cannot summon a smile, or even relax her facial muscles, as she stands before her queen on shaky legs in Wonder Woman #29.

Pink, orange, and yellow fill the sky, while turquoise waves lap at the beach. Orange highlights make characters glow, and blue adds a sheen to darker clothing. Blue links Nubia with Cassie, Yara, and the nearby cliffs, while a temple casts characters in gray shadow. Jeff Spokes portrays the bright sunlight by darkening the Amazons' skin and clothing in the shade. As Clio chronicles the day's events, the black shading of her sash links her with Donna, Cassie, Yara, and the warriors' weapons.

Clayton Cowles fills white dialogue balloons with black uppercase letters. The words grow bold for intonation, swell for raised voices, and rarely shrink. Sound effects help us hear the wind blowing through Themyscira and the sounds of fighting. Yet, Elizabeth's large, colored cries demand everyone's attention in Wonder Woman #29. Thanks to DC Comics for providing a review copy.

Final Thoughts

Sometimes, we are so close to a problem that it’s easy to leap to conclusions. But when Diana's friends attack a problem, they discover that sometimes the best response is to watch and wait for clarity in Wonder Woman #29.

HEY, IT’S AN ALL-NEW JUMPING-ON POINT! “HANDBOOK HEROES!” STARTS HERE!  Oni Press—the multiple Eisner- and Harvey Award–winning publisher of groundbreaking comics and graphic novels since 1997— and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products (WBDGCP) are proud to present your first look inside ADVENTURE TIME #9 –  the must-read first chapter of a brand-new, kick-butt quest packed with rambunctious robotic doppelgängers, and plenty of heroic hi-jinks from writer Nick Winn (Bloody Mary) and artist Austin Baechle (Sesame Street)! Get ready to join Finn and Jake as they set out to create the ultimate handbook to heroics when “Handbook Heroes” kicks off on January 21st!

"Coming off of Finn and Jake's mishaps in Best of Buds and Friends To The End, Finn and Jake try to right their wrongs of almost destroying all of Ooo by becoming the cleanup crew with Finn's new robot arm,” says writer Nick Winn. “Unfortunately, Robot Finn is still running around somewhere, and now he's mucking everything up for all the citizens! This new arc is going to feature more people of Ooo and dive deeper into their homes and keepsakes as we hunt down Robot Finn in these four wacky issues. I'm curious what you all think the green mold sticking out of Robot Finn's body is? Guess you'll have to read and find out!"

With the Enchiridion—the famed guide for adventurers—seemingly gone for good, Finn and Jake set out to make their own handbook on how to be a hero! (See what we did there?) Armed (literally) with new tech from Computer Princess, the best of buds aim to record all the sword swings, fighting styles, sick dance moves, and weird junk they can find. But what happens when they run into perhaps their most terrifying adversary yet—Robot Finn, who’s going around being all unheroic and totally besmirching the real Finn’s good name! Can our heroes—with the help of some familiar faces—get to the bottom of this mechanical mystery?! From cartoonist and animator Nick Winn (Adventure Time: Best of Buds) and the series' next stellar artist, Austin Baechle (Sesame Street), “Handbook Heroes!” is the perfect jumping-on point for new readers and old fans!

But wait! There’s more! ADVENTURE TIME #9 also features the first part of” Lemonhope, Alone,” a backup story from writer Elizabeth Brei (Rubber Match) and artist Cleonique Hilsaca (Sleep Little Dozer) featuring the musical stylings of everyone’s favorite lemon. This momentous issue features courageous covers from Nick Winn (Adventure Time: Best of Buds), Austin Baechle (Sesame Street), JustaSuta (Sesame Street), and Nicole Goux (Orcs in Space, Shadow of the Batgirl)!

Iyanu's popularity continues to soar. Now, the hit animated series is up for prestigious industry awards! NAACP members: check out this cool family-friendly series!

Here's all the info from Lion Forge:

Lion Forge’s Iyanu Earns Three NAACP Image Award Nominations

The global phenomenon earns nominations for Outstanding Children’s Program, Outstanding Animated Series, and Outstanding Writing in a Television Movie, Documentary or Special

Iyanu, the hit animated series from Lion Forge Entertainment that premiered last year on Cartoon Network and HBO Max, has been nominated for three NAACP Image Awards, including Outstanding Children’s Program, and Outstanding Animated Series. In addition, the season finale movie special, Iyanu: The Age of Wonders earned a nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Television Movie, Documentary or Special for writers Roye Okupe and Brandon Easton.

“These nominations are an incredible honor for Iyanu and a powerful moment for the entire team at Lion Forge Entertainment,” said David Steward II, Founder and CEO of Lion Forge Entertainment. “This series represents exactly why we built this studio: to champion culturally rich storytelling at the highest level and ensure that Black creators have the platform and resources to bring their visions to life. We’re proud to see Iyanu recognized by the NAACP for both its excellence and its impact.”

Based on the graphic novel series Iyanu: Child of Wonder by Roye Okupe, Iyanu follows a teenage orphan who discovers her divine powers and her destiny to save the ancient kingdom of Yorubaland.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the NAACP for recognizing Iyanu in these categories,” said Okupe, creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the series. “From the very beginning, my goal was to tell a story rooted authentically in Yoruba culture, one that could inspire kids everywhere and expand what people believe is possible in animation. This recognition belongs to Lion Forge Entertainment, the extraordinary artists, cast, crew, and partners who poured so much care and love into bringing Yorubaland to life. I’m proud of what we’ve built together.” Okupe is also credited with co-writing Iyanu: The Age of Wonders, along with Iyanu story editor, Brandon Easton.

The nominations highlight the growing global momentum behind the franchise as it heads into its next chapter. Season 2 is set to premiere in Spring 2026 on Cartoon Network and HBO Max, continuing Iyanu’s journey as she grows in her power and faces new threats to protect the kingdom of Yorubaland.

"IYANU was the first series where I led a writers room. It was an amazing experience to work with Roye and Lion Forge Entertainment to craft this incredible and unprecedented Nigerian fantasy adventure. Our writer's room was a fantastic mix of brilliant minds who worked hard to bring Iyanu to life and we all grew as humans and as creators through our strong collaboration. It was an honor to help produce this show." said Easton.

The 57th annual NAACP Image Awards will take place Saturday, Feb. 28, live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET, with a simulcast on CBS. Actor, comedian, and writer Deon Cole will host this year’s ceremony, themed “We See You.”

Two of Iyanu’s NAACP nominations:  Outstanding Animated Series and Outstanding Children’s Program, fall under public voting.

Discover the thrilling prequel to Tezuka’s Astro Boy, where the future of robotics is forged in the fires of innovation and intense mecha battles. Experience a gripping journey into the origins of this series, based on the iconic anime streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Crunchyroll.

The countdown to a new era begins in ATOM: The Beginning Volume 13 as the team at Laboratory No. 7 prepares to complete A108, a revolutionary robot powered by the Omega system, the most advanced version of the Bewusstein system. With the dawn of the “robot era” rapidly approaching, the emergence of robots that are more sophisticated than ever before threatens to change the world forever.

As the final stages of A108’s creation unfold, the stakes rise to unprecedented levels. The boundary between man and machine blurs as these robots gain capabilities once thought impossible. But with this new power comes new dangers – ethical dilemmas, rival factions, and the question of whether humanity is prepared to handle the consequences of their own creations. With Laboratory No. 1 under the influence of Haido, and the looming threat of more powerful robots in the world, it becomes clear that the balance between human control and robotic autonomy is shifting.

Volume 13 is a pivotal chapter in this thrilling prequel, blending high-tech mecha action with complex philosophical themes about consciousness and autonomy. The advancements in robotics reach a critical juncture as the Omega system takes center stage, creating a tension-filled environment where each breakthrough brings both excitement and uncertainty.

Fans of the Astro Boy legacy and mecha-themed sci-fi, this volume dives deeper into the intricate world that Tezuka first envisioned. With stunning action sequences, rich storytelling, and thought-provoking questions, this series a must-read for fans of futuristic action and philosophical exploration.

Devil’s Luck: A Hailstone Story #2 Review

Writer: Rafael Scavone

Artist: Eduardo Ferigato

Letterer: Deyvison Manes

Cover Artists: Eduardo Ferigato & Rafael Albuquerque

Editor: Greg Lockard

Publisher: Comixology Originals

Price: $2.99

Release Date: January 20, 2026

Tim Beacon bet his future on establishing his business in Hailstone, Montana. But in 1935, the economy wasn't going his way. He may have been the only dentist for eighty miles. Still, he struggled to make ends meet.

When his client tires of Tim’s griping, Leopold Auberon tells the struggling dentist how he became a wealthy man. How will Leopold's advice help Tim save his business? Might he make enough money to find more fertile ground for dentistry in sunny California? Let's grab our six-shooters, leap into Devil’s Luck: A Hailstone Story #2, and see!

Story

Either Leopold Auberon distrusted banks (and the new-fangled FDIC), or he preferred to keep his money close at hand. He gave Tim stacks of cash to replace his teeth with solid gold implants. But protection against bank failures didn't insure him against disgruntled employees. After Sam, Louis, and Harry pulled Tim into an alley, they gave him a choice. Help them kidnap the employer who ruined their lives when he closed his mine, or they would end Tim's financial worries forever.

Rafael Scavone tells his story from Tim's perspective. It's not a tranquil one. Like Darth Vader, Harry altered the deal. Standing over Leopold's headless corpse, the axe-wielding drunk takes inspiration from Star-Lord and decides he'd prefer to divide their score three ways instead of four. But when Tim drops Leopold's head down the mineshaft, Sam takes charge and assures Tim that Harry won’t kill him.

Devil’s Luck: A Hailstone Story #2 covers the search for Leopold's head. It's not a welcome journey for the three former miners. Every time Sam, Louis, and Harry descended into the Earth, they wondered if they'd return to the surface again. But for Tim, it's a journey into terror.

The frightened dentist doesn't trust homicidal Harry not to try to kill him again. Tim realizes he should have told the police chief about the men's plans and hoped that Jasper could protect him. As things stand, Tim no longer cares about getting rich in Devil's Luck: A Hailstone Story #2. He only hopes that Sam can control Harry and that he gets out of this bad deal alive.

Art

Harry threatened Tim while holding a bloody axe. But when Tim races to a platform and threatens to drop the head over the side, Harry comes at him with a six-shooter. When Harry frightens Tim into dropping the bloody sack containing their retirement, Harry hurls Tim against a wall and presses his smoking gun against the dentist’s head.

Eduardo Ferigato shows the twisted, decaying maze of timber supports that worried the miners and led to the mine's closure. A limited palette of purple, yellow, red, and brown makes the surrounding darkness palpable. Glimpsed from a distance, the men become silhouettes as Sam leads them with his lantern. When Tim shines his flashlight into Sam's mouth, he realizes the costs of poverty in Devil’s Luck: A Hailstone Story #2.

As men descend into the darkness, they speak black uppercase letters in white balloons. The letters grow bold for intonation and frequently shrink for lowered voices. Deyvison Manes adorns Harry's intoxicated dialogue with cloudlike balloons, lightning bolt arrows, and dots. Sound effects enhance fighting, shooting, and Harry emulating Shrek when the ogre takes Donkey's mind off his fear of heights. Thanks to Comixology and Superfan Promotions for providing a review copy.

Final Thoughts

Leopold Auberon asserted an amulet had brought him riches and self-sufficiency. Best of all, he hadn't had to care about anyone else since he acquired it. But as Tim and his partners search for Leopold’s severed head and amulet in Devil’s Luck: A Hailstone Story #2, Harry doesn’t care whether Tim lives or dies. And while the amulet made Leopold rich, it couldn’t protect him from his embittered former employees.
