Bob Wayne's First 65 Years In Comics

Legendary DC frontman BOB WAYNE talks about his first 65 years in comics!

Comics industry legend and Comic-Con Inkpot Award winner Bob Wayne spent 28 years being the friendly face of DC Comics, as their head of sales & marketing.

Bob sits down with his old pal (and one of his favourite Englishmen), Forbidden Planet TV's Andrew Sumner, at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 and talks through his wildly eventful career - from his secret origin in Fort Worth, Texas, to his early years attending conventions & selling comics professionally, to his almost three decades marketing some of the greatest comic books of all time!

Along the way, Bob remembers his friendship with DC president Paul Levitz, discusses working with Will Eisner and encountering Steve Ditko and receives some surprise guest questions (from Diamond Comics overlord William Schanes, Inkpot Award-winning art historian David Siegel and his old DC Comics staffers Fletcher Chu-Fong & Stuart Shreck)!

I enjoyed learning how his family nurtured his love of comics, how the creators he admired inspired him, how Groo The Wanderer creator Sergio Aragonés helped him during his retail days, and how Bob gained entry to George R R Martin's tight-knit Wild Cards franchise.

San Diego Comic-Con attendees should enjoy his stories about transitioning from tables loaded with comics and books to today's elaborate booths in the exhibit hall. Long-time comic fans will enjoy hearing about his associations with Will Eisner's Spirit comic, The Watchmen, and MAD Magazine.

Bob's anecdotes even encompass an Oklahoma boy's desire to visit Oz and the introduction of Marvel's The Savage Sword Of Conan series. So grab your favorite beverage and kick back as Andrew Sumner, the Chief Operating Officer of Titan Comics, guides you through Bob's enchanting stories in this 51-minute program. Thanks to the San Diego Comic-Con press office for sharing this enjoyable interview!
