Pooty has achieved renown as a Roman gladiator. Ragamuffin has become a fearsome predator in the Cretaceous era. And Lenore has joined a celestial choir. What happens when Lenore makes fun of the choirmaster? Let’s slip on our time rings, leap into Lenore: The Time War #2, and find out!
Story
Pooticus had a Roman manor filled with wives, servants, and his malformed children. But he left his riches and harem behind when Cthulhu teleported Lenore to his home in 180 AD. They traveled 1200 miles through the desert to see if their friend Taxidermy could send them home. But Lord Taxen-Ra, who cares for his subjects, prepares to kill them when his servant suggests Lenore and Pooty are gods.
Lenore: The Time War #2 reunites former friends, but not in a way any of them would expect. Nor do the friends make it easy on each other. They continually test and probe, exploring the limits of their interpersonal bonds. Yet even if they subject each other to trials, Lenore and her friends prize loyalty.
Roman Dirge fills his story with wacky humor, relationship dynamics, a rescue across time and space, and a divine roast. It's a reminder that people and gods share similar strengths and weaknesses, regardless of the power they wield. The Time Goats return in Lenore: The Time War #2. And they're unhappy about Lenore cooking and eating some of their agents.
Art
When a crocodile threatens to eat children playing in a river, Lord Taxen-Ra protects them from harm. So he is displeased when Lenore and Pooty mess with his cats. He senses the weapon Pooty used in the arena, prompting the trident appears in Pooty’s hands. Well, the God of Egypt can match that! And when Lord Taxen-Ra wants to understand why the two travelers claim they know him, he sticks a finger into Lenore’s head.
Roman Dirge fills ancient Egypt with colors as brilliant as the jewels that hung from Cleopatra's neck. He splashes red across his subjects and adorns his throne room with red and gold. The loaded palette enhances the hand-drawn appeal of Lenore: The Time War #2.
Roman Dirge writes generously sized words into balloons, colored boxes, and backgrounds. Lenore: The Time War #2 is a throwback to an earlier era when cartoons celebrated wacky humor and falling asteroids wiped out most life for millions of years. (Okay, that's two eras, but both rocked as hard as Metallica, Pantera, and Disaster Area). Thanks to Titan Comics for providing a copy for review.
Final Thoughts
Lenore: The Time War #2 sparkles with humor, wild situations, misunderstandings, and grand reunions. It's a must-read book that reminds us how complicated relationships are and how one-upmanship is a form of caring.
Rating: 9/10
